Free Heart Knitting Pattern

Valentine's Day is coming up fast, and what better way to celebrate it than to knit lots and lots of hearts?

Heart knitting pattern

So I thought I'd share my Heart Knitting Pattern with you!

I developed this design as a kind of 'punctuation' to my Bubble Writing Alphabet, along with an ampersand and an exclamation mark.  My pattern testers and I felt these were the symbols that would really accentuate the alphabet.  The heart is great for joining a pair of names, or even replacing a letter as I've done below!

Once I'd written the pattern, though, I realised just how versatile it is and how many other things it can be used for!  Here are just a few of the things you can make with my Heart Knitting pattern:

  • A hanging decoration for your door or Christmas tree
  • A banner of stuffed hearts (all the same size or different sizes)
  • A big, chunky knit cushion
  • A set of washcloths
  • A banner of flat knit hearts
  • A little stuffed heart to gift someone for Valentine's or as a long-distance hug

If you'd like some tips on how to adapt my Heart Knitting Pattern to various different sizes and finished objects, you can purchase it here and not only get an easy to print version but also a 4 page introduction to knitting any letter or symbol from my Bubble Writing Alphabet with loads of useful tips about what needles and yarn (and how much yarn!) you'll need to knit different sizes of hearts, and also tips on how to knit the pattern and turn it into your desired finished ornament, cushion or washcloth!

You can also buy an eco-friendly Knit Kit for a Wool Heart Ornament which uses this pattern on my website (currently UK only) or at my Etsy store.  The Knit Kit contains the perfect amount of sustainably sourced wool, organic wool stuffing and burlap ribbon to knit your heart, along with needles if required.  Available in both pink and cream (undyed wool) at both stores.

Or if you'd rather use up some of your stash (this is a great stash-buster!) and just want the pattern... here it is!
